Candace Mattox Wood, 77, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on February 12, 2026.Candace was born on August 2, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to Howard and Virginia Mattox of Gretna. She married Dale Wood in 1967, and they shared 59 years of marriage.Candace was a lifelong learner and dedicated educator. She was a graduate of Blue Ridge College of Evangelism, Danville Community College, Averett College, and the University of Virginia, where she earned her Ph.D. in Social Studies Education. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom and into her church and community.She served as a professor of Bible and later as Registrar at Blue Ridge College of Evangelism in Wytheville, Va. For decades, she faithfully taught an adult Bible study class at Cherry Ave. Christian Church in Charlottesville. Ronnie Nelson Shifflett went to be with the Lord surrounded by the love of his family at his home. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth “Sis” Shifflett and Norman “Junior” Shifflett; his siblings, Doris Davis and Edward “Buster” Shifflett; his brother-in-law, Ronnie Davis I; his sisters-in-law, Alice Shifflett and Trisha Shifflett; and his niece, Jennifer Crawford.He is survived by his loving brothers, Norman Shifflett and Gary Shifflett; his sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Roger Crawford; his nieces and nephews, Allison and Jason Thomas, Roger Crawford Jr., Emily Crawford, Ronald Davis II, Ryan Shifflett, Roy Dorman, and Eddie and Angela Shifflett. He also leaves behind cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, Dustin, Cody, Tyler, Sierra Thomas, Brayden and Brihanna Shifflett, and Lillian Davis; and one great-great nephew, Waylon Thomas.Ronnie graduated from the special education program at Albemarle High School in 1974.
