John Franklyn Newsom III of Richmond died March 24 2026 at age 90 after a lifetime devoted to family work and service. Born February 24 1936 in Roanoke Jack spent his teenage years in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School. After earning a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania he moved to Richmond in 1961 to begin a business career that spanned almost 40 years. After starting out at the Chesapeake Potomac Telephone Company he joined Wheat First Securities where he became Vice President and Senior Investment Research Analyst and achieved the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He later worked for nearly two decades as Vice President and Trust Investment Officer with Jefferson National Bank. Jack was proud of his service to his country and community.
